UK secondary school students offered chance to win a place at a university summer school in Hong Kong!

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London has launched for the fifth time the Student Competition this year with the title “Hong Kong: A Smart City in the World!”. The objective of the Competition is to enable British students to experience Hong Kong’s vibrancy, innovation and creativity; and to consider pursuing tertiary education in Hong Kong.

The Competition offered UK sixth form secondary school students the chance to win a free trip to Hong Kong to attend a summer school programme at a Hong Kong university and have a genuine taste of the university campus life. Sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airways and supported by the British Council, the Competition has the participation of four key universities in Hong Kong.

To join the Competition, students are invited to conduct research on the strengths of Hong Kong to develop itself as a Smart City, and to come up with a proposed project for Hong Kong to further integrate technology to improve the quality of living. . Entries can be through any means – an essay or through social media, for example a video clip on YouTube, a post in a blog. Five winners will be selected and entries will be judged based on content, creativity and presentation.

To be eligible for the competition, the contestants must be –

  1. a British citizen holding a UK passport and without right of abode or right to land in Hong Kong;
  2. sixth form (Grade 12 or Grade 13) and studying full time at a secondary school in the UK;
  3. able to speak fluent English;
  4. given the consent to participate in the Competition by his/her parent or legal guardian; and
  5. able to support him/herself financially whilst in Hong Kong.

The Competition starts to receive entries today and the deadline for application is 06 May 2016.
